...that the person you’ll work with to create the conditions for your success started off writing comedy. Which means, I learned very early to focus on what’s going on in the world, where things are heading and how it all impacts the audience. Specifically, your customers, your partners, your employees and you. Plus, it generally makes the experience of working together more upbeat and enjoyable.
Going from writing to becoming an award-winning ad agency Creative Director wasn’t too much of a stretch. From there, perhaps uncommon but when you get to know me it all makes sense, I jumped firmly into the role of COO for an early stage tech company. We grew it 10 times over.
Now I was a busy, battle-proven business consultant. Jolting the Country President of a global technology corporation into rethinking his management team approach. Building 70+ retail store growth strategies for a multi-brand chain delivering $35M in added revenue. Crafting a start-up’s business plan and investor presentation that raised $40M in capital plus a line for another $60M.
Next I was President of a Private Equity firm. Funded by one the partners who had cashed out from that start-up. Many plans written and deals done. With more than a few crazy experiences to share. Like when the engine of a private charter we were flying caught fire. Although news helicopters were hovering over our landing for a more impactful scoop, we lived. Remind me to tell you about the flight attendant’s response during the emergency.
Technology has always had and always will have a special place in my heart. From start-ups to exits, I work with Founders to guide their journeys. My consulting relationships have led to formal roles as Country President for a global digital firm and COO of an early stage software company. Informally, as part of my consulting relationships, I often take on some of that work for my clients to move their companies forward while they focus on, what else, product development. That’s life in tech.
The story continues. Maybe with you.
It costs nothing in money, it is all profit, it completes our education, founds and fosters our friendships, and can be enjoyed at any age and in almost any state of health.
