Why Create The Conditions

I’ve run companies and worked with enough CEO’s, executives and management teams to know that even in the very largest of corporations, some are successful in spite of themselves. They plod along with tired or narrow strategies, riding the wave of healthy markets until times get tough. Then as things unravel they struggle with finding a solution. The company may survive, but management often changes, and it’s not usually pretty.

Life is part sweat and part luck. Even at our best, we won’t always get it right. We can’t control everything. But we do have the ability to dream, to think and to take action. With the right guidance we’re able to imagine what tomorrow can be, and take steps today that position us for success. That’s what creating the conditions is all about.

Or as the old joke goes…

For years Harry prayed that he would win the lottery. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year until finally the big guy upstairs couldn’t take hearing about it anymore. When Harry stretched out his arms begging yet again, “Oh Lord… please, please let me win the lottery”, a mighty voice from above boomed, “Harry, would you at least buy a ticket”?!
